John H. Kane

Sergeant John Kane was electrocuted on Crescent Street, near the Park Congregational Church, after coming into contact with an electrical cable pole that had shorted out with 4,000 volts.

He was investigating the death of a teenager who had also been killed after coming into contact with the cable pole around 7:00 p.m. The investigation revealed that the pole had a leaky insulator and would only pulse extra electricity when a trolley car traveled past.

Sergeant Kane had served with the Norwich Police Department for 33 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.
