Officer Wesley Johnson was killed in an automobile crash while on patrol on Highway 108 in Twain Hearte around 8 pm.
He was traveling westbound when his patrol vehicle struck a sign marker, lost control, hit an embankment, and rolled over multiple times. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital.
Officer Johnson had served with the California Highway Patrol for 11 years, serving 10 years in the Merced Area before transferring to Sonora. He was survived by his wife, son, and two daughters.
