David Joseph Inlow, Sr.

Patrolman David Inlow was shot and killed when he drove into the parking lot of a gas station at 3737 East 31st Street and came upon a robbery in progress.

Patrolman Inlow witnessed the subject fleeing the KC Oil Company station, and shots were exchanged. The subject shot him under each armpit, areas where his bulletproof vest did not cover. Patrolman Inlow was able to return fire and kill the suspect.

The suspect, on probation for other crimes, had stolen over $200 from the attendant who was found in the restroom. The youth driver of the getaway car pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to no more than 15 years.

Patrolman Inlow had served with the Kansas City Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife, son, two daughters, mother, brother, and sister.
