Thomas F. Hudson

Trooper Thomas Hudson was killed when a tractor-trailer struck the rear of his patrol car on I-87 in Saratoga Springs around 10:48 p.m.

Trooper Hudson had stopped behind another disabled tractor-trailer on the southbound lanes with his lights flashing. The driver of the disabled vehicle was in the patrol car with Trooper Hudson because it was raining, mixed with snow and fog. A tractor-trailer hit them from behind and slammed the patrol car into the disabled tractor-trailer before catching fire. Trooper Hudson was killed instantly. The driver of the disabled vehicle was also killed.

The driver was convicted of two counts of criminally negligent homicide and was sentenced to six months in jail. However, on appeal, the indictment was dismissed.

Trooper Hudson had served with the New York State Police for 15 years and was assigned to Saratoga at the time. He was survived by his wife, three daughters, his parents, and brother.
