Patrolman Henry Hight succumbed to injuries sustained five days earlier in an automobile accident in Moore County on Highway 15-501, near White Hill.
He was responding to a vehicle accident when his police vehicle struck a truck that was entering the highway. He was taken to Moore Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries five days later. The accident occured near the Lee County line.
Patrolman Hight was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served with the North Carolina Highway Patrol for 11 years.
