View all 45 ReflectionsThe question has been asked many times, why does the good die young? It's been over 30 yrs & I remember that night like it was yesterday, the chase had been going for a while when dispatch said we have an officer down on north main near 27th St. I was working one district but made my way to the accident & immediately upon seeing the patrol car knew no one could survive that.
A young rookie officer, Michael Roman who just an hour ago sat besides me in rollcall. You never know how someone will have an influence in your life.
The day of his Funeral, I of all people was assigned to his house. Sitting infront of his house I could see his children's toys in the yard, it all seemed so surreal. What was I supposed to take from all this, from a life cut to short.
Little did I know that in my own life I would experience a tremendous loss some 7 yrs later. Reading the reflection his wife leaves over these years is heartbreaking. But all of us have a destiny with death that is inescapable & that's why while we are still alive we come to our fallen brother and say thank you, you did the best you could & we can only hope that one day we will see you again.
