Horace C. "Pot" Hall

Deputy Hall was shot and killed while serving commitment papers on a mentally ill subject.

The suspect attacked Deputy Hall, took his service revolver, and shot him. He was flushed out of his home with teargas after a 40-minute gun battle with police.

The suspect, 34, was declared insane and committed at Searcy Mental Hospital in Mount Vernon, where he died on September 17, 1992.

Deputy Hall had served with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office for 16 years. He was survived by his wife.
