James D. Hagerty

Lieutenant James Hagerty was shot and killed after being ambushed by a man who had stolen another officer's revolver. Lieutenant Hagerty had followed the suspect until he was ambushed at Washington and Morris streets.

The suspect was later apprehended and sentenced to life in prison. He was denied parole in 1938.

Lieutenant Hagerty had served with the Indianapolis Police Department for 18 years.
