John Scott Hackett, Jr.

Sergeant John Hackett and Patrolman James Parker were killed in a police helicopter accident along McCoy Road south of Reidsville.

The helicopter they were flying struck high-tension wires adjacent to a recently constructed bridge at 10:30 a.m.

Sergeant Hackett was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the North Carolina Highway Patrol for 35 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, son, brother, and two grandchildren.

On today, the 50th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the USMC. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
