Corporal Michael Webster was killed when he was struck by a drunk driver during a traffic stop on Highway 40 in Blue Springs, Missouri at approximately 3:00 am. As Corporal Webster spoke with the driver of the vehicle he pulled over, the drunk driver struck his patrol car, then the stopped vehicle, and then Corporal Webster. He was flown to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 7:05 pm.
On February 10, 1995, the 21-year-old driver was convicted of second degree assault, drunk driving, and sentenced to 7 years. Just 7 months into his sentence he was released pending an appeal. His drivers license was restored to him.
Corporal Webster had served with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 9 years. He is survived by his wife and three children. He had recently been recognized for his exceptional record for drunk driving arrests.
