Officer Johnny Garcia was killed in an automobile crash while responding to a call involving a drunk driver whose car was stuck in a fence on I-10.
His patrol car struck a patch of loose gravel and overturned near the intersection of State Route 84 and Pert Road, near Casa Grande.
Officer Garcia had served with the Arizona Department of Public Safety for 3-1/2 years. He was named Highway Patrol District 6 Officer of the Year in 1988. He was survived by his parents and three sisters.
