James T. Ford

Detective James Ford was shot and killed as he stood in a telephone booth at a barroom near the intersection of Bienville Street and Basin Street.

A 63-year-old man was charged with his murder. The suspect had argued with Detective Ford in the barroom earlier about the detective's expulsion of a friend from a local racetrack. He returned moments later and shot Detective Ford.

The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life. He died in prison March 16th, 1940.
