Joseph Dolphin

Policeman Joseph Dolphin was killed when he and his horse were thrown under the wheels of a trolley on Midvale Avenue at 31st Street (modern day Fox Street).

The horse became frightened, reared and plunged in front of the fast-moving trolley. The horse was also killed.

Policeman Dolphin was a Spanish-American war veteran and served with the Philadelphia Police Department for four and a half years. He was survived by his pregnant wife and 6-year-old daughter.
