Joseph Dolphin

Police Officer Joseph Dolphin was killed when he and his horse were thrown under the wheels of a trolley on Midvale Avenue at 31st Street (modern day Fox Street).

The horse became frightened, reared and plunged in front of the fast-moving trolley. The horse was also killed.

Officer Dolphin was a United States Army veteran of the Spanish-American war and served with the Philadelphia Police Department for four and a half years. He was survived by his pregnant wife and 6-year-old daughter.

On today, the 113th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War.
