Christopher M. Dean

Patrolman Chris Dean was shot and killed while checking on four suspicious men while walking his beat.

One of the men drew a gun and shot him four times. Patrolman Dean never had an opportunity to draw his weapon.

The suspect was convicted of murder and executed by hanging on June 25, 1926.

Officer Dean had served with the Mobile Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.

He is buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.

Officer Dean was my Great Grandfather; his only Daughter Mary Louise Dean Nelson was my Grandmother. I heard the story of his violent death many times and I had the honor of being present at the placing of his Honorary Head Stone.
