Burrell E. Dawkins

Marshal Dawkins was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man in downtown Ocala near Broadway Street and Magnolia Avenue. The suspect was acquitted of murder.

Marshal Dawkins was the elected marshal and had been with the agency for 12 years. He was the fourth black law enforcement officer to be killed in the line of duty in Florida.
