Correctional Officer Wilson Cartwright succumbed to injuries he received when an inmate at the Baldwin Correctional Institution beat him.

Officer Cartwright had served with the Georgia Department of Corrections for 12 years. He was survived by his wife, three sons, and six grandchildren.

On today, the 40th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Georgia. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than a Corrections Officer.
