James J. Carroll

Patrolman James Carroll was killed at 6:30 pm when his police motorcycle struck a traffic booth on the Pulaski Skyway while chasing a car. The vehicle suddenly attempted to exit the Skyway at Tonnele Avenue, forcing his motorcycle into the traffic booth.

Patrolman Carroll had served with the Jersey City Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and five children.

One of Patrolman Carroll's sons, Sergeant Donald Carroll, was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1986 while also serving with Jersey City Police Department.
