Eugene Wilder Campbell

Investigator Eugene Campbell was killed in an automobile crash in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana.

He and another agent were returning to New Orleans after conducting an investigation in Baton Rouge. As they drove along Highway 61 their car was forced off the road by a tractor-trailer near Reserve, Louisiana. Investigator Campbell was ejected from the vehicle and killed. The other agent suffered serious injuries.

The truck driver was arrested and charged with negligent homicide.

Investigator Campbell was a United States Coast Guard veteran of WWII. He had previously served with the United States Border Patrol, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Florida State Beverage Department, and the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, and three siblings.
