David W. Campbell

Sergeant Dave Campbell was killed when his patrol car was struck head-on on the North Bypass at Stewart Street at 11:20 p.m.

Sergeant Campbell and his partner, accompanied by a civilian ride-along, were rounding a curve in the road when the accident occurred. The vehicle burst into flames upon impact, causing severe burns to the occupants. Several witnesses to the accident stopped and, despite receiving burns themselves, pulled the officers from the burning vehicle.

Sergeant Campbell was a United States Air Force Vietnam War veteran. He was survived by his wife, two stepchildren, three sisters, and three brothers.

On today, the 40th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
