William F. Bunda

Patrolman William Bunda succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained eight days earlier while responding to reports of a robbery.

He was walking his beat when he encountered several men running from an alley who told him they were being chased. As he started to investigate he located the other group at the intersection of Polk Street and Miller Street. As he began to search the group for weapons one of the men shot him in the spine.

Despite being seriously wounded he returned fire and wounded one of the subjects.

The man was charged with Patrolman Bunda's murder but acquitted.

Patrolman Bunda was assigned to the 2nd Precinct, 16th District, and was survived by his wife and child.
