Deputy Sheriff Sim Lockard was shot and killed as he and several prohibition agents raided a still near Gray, Kentucky.
He was securing the still when he was shot in the back. Despite being wounded, he returned fire and fatally wounded the subject.
Deputy Lockard was survived by his wife and two children.
Deputy Sheriff Lockard's brother, Night Police Chief Joseph Lockard, was shot and killed in the line of duty on August 30th, 1930, while serving with the Barbourville Police Department.
