Police Officer Toby Hamilton succumbed to a leg injury sustained one week earlier when he was attacked by his prisoner near the 200 block of North Camac Street.
Officer Hamilton had been alerted by a citizen of a burglary in progress at her residence. As he made entry into the residence he located and arrested a subject he found inside for attempted burglary. While he was escorting the prisoner to the police station he was attacked and severely kicked in his leg. He had managed to take control of his prisoner again and walked him the rest of the way to the station and placed them into a jail cell. He was removed to the hospital because he was unable to walk. While being treated blood poisoning set in and he succumbed to his injury one week later.
