Officer King Brown succumbed to wounds he received when his service weapon discharged as he exited his vehicle on January 20, 1946.
Officer Brown was called to assist two other officers with the arrest of three men involved in a shooting on First Street in Lawton. He was known to keep his weapon cocked and stuck in the waistband of his pants. As he got back into his vehicle, the weapon fell from his pants, discharged, and struck him. He was transported to a Lawton hospital where he passed away the next day.
Officer Brown had served with the Lawton Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, two sisters, and two brothers.
Officer Brown is buried in Highland Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma.
