John Dougherty

Police Officer John Dougherty was struck and killed by a trolley while directing traffic at the intersection of 29th Street and Lehigh Avenue.

A trolley carrying fans to a doubleheader baseball game at Shibe Park derailed and struck him as he directed traffic. He was transported to Women's Homeopathic Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Dougherty served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 29 years and was a widower.
