John Alphonse Schmidt

Police Officer John Schmidt suffered a fatal heart attack after carrying an elderly man down a flight of stairs while on a medical call at approximately 8:00 am.

He and his partner had responded to the man's home at 4847 North Warnock Avenue for the emergency call. Approximately two hours later he told his partner he wasn't feeling well. His partner transported him to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he passed away.

Officer Schmidt was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean war and had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 13 years. He was survived by his wife and four children.
