Sergeant Daniel Davis died after suffering an accidental gunshot wound to his leg in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Summerville Road.
He was completing his shift at approximately 10:00 pm and removing weapons from his patrol car when one of the firearms discharged. The round struck him in the leg, severing an artery. The injury caused him to bleed to death before he could call for help. His girlfriend, who also serves with the department, located him a short time later and called for assistance.
Sergeant Davis had served with the Phenix City Police Department for eight years. He is survived by his daughter, son, mother, stepfather, and sister.
