Gregory Jonas

Lieutenant Gregory Jonas was shot and killed while patrolling an apartment complex.

Lieutenant Jonas was on patrol in the 4700 block of Tudor Avenue when he was shot in the head and killed. It is believed the shooting occurred when he was questioning an individual at approximately 2:00 am.

The suspect was later apprehended and charged with murder. On June 13th, 2012, the suspect pleaded "guilty but mentally ill" to murder. On November 13th, 2012, he was sentenced to 53 years in prison without parole.

Lieutenant Jonas had served with the Centreville Police Department for 15 years and had previously served with the Alorton Police Department for eight years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, four daughters, mother and 10 grandchildren.
