Bert Blanchard

Game Warden Bert Blanchard was shot and killed after arresting two men for illegally hunting robins in Wildcat Canyon in Contra Costa County.

He was walking the hunters out of the canyon when they came across another group of hunters. After speaking two the hunters, they continued out the canyon. Approximately 15 minutes later the second group of hunters heard several shotgun blasts. It was later determined that the hunters that Warden Blanchard had arrested were able to reload their guns and shot him. His body was found several days later by mushroom hunters. The suspects he had arrested fled and were never apprehended.

Warden Blanchard was survived by his wife.
