Senior Agent Jim Matkin was killed in an automobile accident while on-duty.
He was patrolling Highway 565, near Wildsville, when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree shortly before 5:00 am. Agent Matkin was killed instantly in the collision. A passerby discovered the accident and reported it to the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office.
Agent Matkin had served with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for six years and was assigned to the Enforcement Division's Statewide Strike Force. He is survived by his stepson, parents, and two sisters.
