Officer Jack Bell succumbed to injuries he received when he was in a motorcycle crash while responding to a burglary call at 2:00 pm.

It was the second burglar call at the same address, and four officers were responding to the alarm. Officer Bell was traveling east on Fourth Street when another vehicle attempted to yield the right of way to another police vehicle on Commerce Street. The driver failed to see Officer Bell's motorcycle and struck him at the intersection. Officer Bell was transported to City-County Hospital and then moved to Protestant Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
