Henry J. Schnabel

Posseman Henry Schnabel and Sheriff Richard Glover were shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for murdering Karnes County Sheriff W.T. Morris two days earlier.

The suspect was waiting in ambush inside a home approximately six miles from Belmont and opened fire on the posse when they approached. Sheriff Glover and Posseman Schnabel were both killed. The suspect was arrested but was later pardoned by the governor of Texas.

Posseman Schnabel was survived by his wife and several children. He was buried in Belmont Cemetery.

It's mind boggling how a man who killed three LEO's could be pardoned, but not having all of the details and facts I'll stick with the positivity of this great website and the millions of great men and women who are honored on it because of their sacrifice. You are certainly one of those great men Posse Man Schnabel and please know that time will never erase your memory and legacy or the sacrifice you made.
