Walter C. Floyd

Marshal Walter Floyd was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man who had refused to surrender a shotgun he was carrying through town.

Marshal Floyd was unarmed during the initial confrontation and went to arm himself. When he returned to Ninth Street to arrest the man, he was shot. He died at 3:00 am the following morning.

The suspect, who pleaded self-defense, was tried and acquitted.

He was survived by his wife and two children.
