Albert Pike Powell

Deputy Sheriff Albert Powell was shot and killed as he and the Chelsea city marshal surprised three men burglarizing a store.

The two officers were patrolling together when they observed the men walking away from a local hardware store. The city marshal turned the car around and as they came close the men opened fire, killing Deputy Powell.

The body of one of the suspects was found outside of town a short time later. Officers speculated that he had been shot and killed by his companions. One suspect was apprehended several days later and charged with several crimes including Deputy Powell's murder. The murder charge was later dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

Deputy Powell had served with the Rogers County Sheriff's Office for one year.
