Jailer Albert Parker succumbed to wounds sustained two days earlier when he was struck in the head with an axe while supervising a chain gang. The inmate who struck him was attempting to escape at the time.
On March 29, 1946, the suspect, 21, was convicted of murder. He was paroled on December 6, 1960.
Jailer Parker was survived by his wife and ten children.
