Wildlife Officer Roy Burnsed and Wildlife Officer Charles Randall were killed in an automobile crash when their SUV patrol vehicles crashed head-on, on the L-5 levee near the Holey Land Wildlife Management Area in Palm Beach County.

The officers were driving in opposite directions at approximately 9:30 pm on the 17-foot wide dirt road which crossed the levee in a remote area with little light. Both officers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Officer Randall succumbed to his injuries two days after the accident.

Officer Burnsed had served with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for 10 months and had graduated from the academy in July.

He is survived by his wife.

FWC Class 46 lifted each other up for today's FWC Memorial Workout in honor of fallen Officer Roy Burnsed who was killed in the line of duty October 26, 2001. We were honored to have a Major and Lieutenant Colonel join us and helped push the recruits to the finish line. FWC has made these Memorial Workouts a tradition for the past 9 years and continues to actively honor those officers who paved the way and made the ultimate sacrifice.
