Patrolman Ramon Solis and Patrolman Damon Talbott were killed in a helicopter crash while participating in a training exercise in an Aerospatiale AS-350-B2 medical helicopter near Roswell, New Mexico.
The two officers and a third member of the New Mexico State Police were riding on the hospital-owned helicopter in order to learn procedures on how to set up landing zones at the scene of medical emergencies. It is believed the helicopter experienced a mechanical failure and crashed, killing the officers, and injuring the other occupants.
Patrolman Talbott and Patrolman Solis had both served with the New Mexico State Police for ten months after graduating from the same academy class.
He is survived by his parents.

But I miss you the most you were like my little brother everyone thought we were related but Yvette was your cousin. Allot has happened over these 20 years allot of family members passing away and our families getting smaller but you gaining all in heaven I will soon be there with you and all of them. If there is one thing that I must say to you, Your mom is one tough cookie but she misses you the most as you know Tia is like our mom to us as we love her, I still remember vividly seeing you in your squad car not knowing that, it would be the last time... I miss you when you would drive up in your bike or your squad car everyone looking what was going on. I miss just talking to you my brother so save a spot. I hope that I haven't let you down on that promise one is gone but your mom is still here and I will keep that promise. Love You Luis
