Police Officer Frank McKinsey succumbed to wounds he suffered the previous day while attempting to arrest two robbery suspects.
While placing the first suspect under arrest at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad depot, Officer McKinsey was shot three times and succumbed to his wounds the next day.
The suspects fled the scene and were never apprehended. They were suspected of the murder of Sellersburg Town Marshal John Harris the previous day.
Officer McKinsey had served with the North Vernon Police Department for four years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
