Patrolman Robert Ventura was killed in an accident while on duty.
He was on routine patrol when another vehicle made a left hand turn in front of his patrol car. He swerved to avoid a collision, but struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. The driver that turned in front of him was arrested and charged with several moving violations.
Patrolman Ventura had served with the Jackson Township Police Department for two years, and is survived by his wife, 4-year-old daughter, and 16-month-old son.
