Patrolman John Wimbish was killed in an automobile crash on Old Lexington Road, at Sunset Drive, while involved in a vehicle pursuit.

Patrolman Wimbish's partner was severely injured and never able to return to full duty. The driver they were pursuing was never apprehended.

Patrolman Wimbish had served with the Winston-Salem Police Department for four years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 57th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
