Ivan William Wilson

Assistant Chief Ivan Wilson was shot and killed at about 9:30 pm after he and another officer stopped a vehicle on Route 12 for having a headlight out.

Unbeknownst to Assistant Chief Wilson, the suspect had just robbed a convenience store in Kalamazoo and had several of the stolen items in the front seat. The suspect shot him during the stop. The man fled but was later shot and killed by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.

Assistant Chief Wilson was a WWII veteran and had served as a part-time officer with the Allen Village Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
