Oscar Ward

Deputy Sheriff Oscar Ward was shot and killed after approaching a group of men who were drinking in Palmer, Tennessee.

One of the men suddenly ran but tripped over a wire. When the man stood up he opened fire, killing Deputy Ward. The suspect, 45, was charged with murder and tried twice. Both trials ended with a hung jury.

I never got to know my grandfather but my Mom talked about him a lot. I know the night he was killed I think she said it was raining, they were all waiting for him to come home. I think my Mom was very young then. I have tried to learn more through Ancestry but have only gotten so far. Not very far. But Mom said he was a very strict father.
