Clyde Brown Avent

Patrolman Clyde Avent was struck and killed by an automobile while conducting a checkpoint near the intersection of North Church Street and Thomas Street in Rocky Mount.

The driver of the vehicle was acquitted of wrongdoing by a jury on February 1, 1950.

Patrolman Avent served with the North Carolina Highway Patrol for nine years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

The overpass of NC64 at I95 in Nash County is named in his honor.
