Sheriff Ten Eyck suffered a fatal heart attack immediately after dealing with an unruly prisoner who had been complaining about being arrested and handcuffed. After refusing to cut the prisoner any slack Sheriff Ten Eyck began to walk out of the room and collapsed.
Sheriff Ten Eyck had served as sheriff for 25 years.

View all 9 ReflectionsSheriff Ten Eyck hired my mother, Dorothy Martin, as the first female deputy sheriff of Pecos County (1957). I was a child but I well remember him and I know my mother loved her job there. I still have her badge and photographs of her there in the office. RIP Sheriff Ten Eyck.
