Officer Stapf was struck and killed by a trolley car on North Avenue underneath the Western Maryland Railroad bridge. He was attempting to cross the street and walked passed one stopped trolley car and into the path of an oncoming trolley.
Officer Stapf had been with the Baltimore Police Department for 33.5 years and was assigned to the Northwestern District.
