Officer Sieger was shot and killed while attempting to assist a detective making an arrest at 316 Rivard Street. During the struggle the detective suffered a fractured skull. Officer Sieger continued to struggle with the suspect but lost control of his weapon after three females came to the suspect's aid. The suspect gained control of the weapon and shot Officer Sieger to death.
The 39-year-old suspect was arrested, convicted of first degree murder, and sentenced to life.
Officer Sieger had served with the Detroit Police Department for 9 years and was survived by his wife and son.
