Michael Shaughnessy

Detective Michael Shaughnessy was killed during an escape attempt.

Detective Shaughnessy was one of three officers attacked by a mob attempting to free a prisoner at 493 South Canal Street (Present Day 1140 South Canal Street). One of the officers was knocked down, beaten and cut with a knife. This officer drew his service revolver and fired at his assailants. Detective Shaughnessy was mortally wounded by the bullet.

Detective Shaughnessy served with the Chicago Police Department for less than 14 years and was survived by his wife, and five children.
