Conservation Officer Ronald Shager was killed when his patrol car was struck by a train near the Rock Island Depot in Faribault, Minnesota.

The car was pushed down a ravine into the Straight River.

Officer Shager had served with the agency for 22 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

He was my hero. Going to see Uncle Bud
was always an adventure! Sometimes he took me with him when he was checking fishing licences. I remember that he always was able to be friendly and the fishermen were respectful. However, if there was a violation, I recollect that the violater got a good tongue lashing and a ticket! He, as I found out years after his passing, was loved and truly respected by so many others,even folks that he had ticketed.
