Pedro R. Sendejo

Constable Pedro Sendejo was shot and killed by a man who had just been arrested by the county sheriff for burglarizing a nearby house. As the man ran from the scene, another another officer opened fire hitting him in the arm, leg, and hip.

On April, 24, 1960, the suspect, 29, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life. He was paroled on December 24, 1976. In 1986 he was convicted of attempted aggravated attempted murder and served 2 years and 8 months in prison. In 1991 he threatened his parole officer. In 1992 he was apprehended in San Diego, California, and returned to Duval county where he spent 5 weeks in the Duval County Jail.

Constable Sendejo had served as constable for only nine months. He had previously served as a deputy for the Duval County Sheriff's Department for 14 years. He was survived by his wife five children.
