Corporal Al Poulter was killed in an automobile crash at the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and Foothill Boulevard while he and his partner responded to a fire.

He was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a broken neck.

Corporal Poulter had served with the Oakland Police Department for nine years. He was survived by his wife and children.
